About the Event
This fall, instead of raking and baggings leaves for the landfill, consider leaving the leaves. Leaves make great mulch and provides overwinter habitat for moths, butterflies, bees, fireflies and more. Get this beautiful Leave the Leave lawn sign, created exclusively for West Newbury Wild and Native by local artist, Jenn Houle.
The Leave the Leaves sign features a small array of the MANY invertebrates that rely on leaf cover and standing sticks + stems to overwinter. Birds devour winter flower seed heads, important fatty nutrients for the cold months in Massachusetts.
Native MA species identified from top left clockwise at the sign: Compton tortoiseshell butterfly*, firefly, clouded sulphur caterpillar, spring azure*, native bees, mourning cloak butterfly*, mourning cloak caterpillar, luna moth caterpillar, luna moth and firefly. Butterflies marked with asterisk* overwinter in adult form! Artwork by Jenn Houle @jennhoulestudio
Order your yard sign to inspire your community to Leave the Leaves, a critical conservation step to create year round habitat for invertebrates and pollinators! Place orders through the West Newbury Wild & Native website, $20 per sign.
